initial oil change

Hello, everyone. New to the forum. Soon be ready for initial oil change for my 2011 550XP. Noticed the oil drain plug is allen head. Owners manual doesn't state size. Is it SAE or metric, and what size? Also, what do you guys use to remove oil filter? Cup wrench and ratchet? Thanks in advance for the help.

You'll need a 6mm allen key. I bought a small steel band type filter wrench. It works well. Many on this forum prefer the cup type wrench. It's probably due to it's ease of use. I couldn't find one, so I bought the band type. I can see the cup type being a breeze to use through the hole in the bottom skid plate. Don't over torque the plug, as it's not too big. Good snug will be fine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch, guys. This is not my first ATV. Started with a 330 Trail Boss about 8 years ago, then went with a 330 Magnum for the 4WD. Strayed away for a few years with Bombardier and Suzuki, but came back to Polaris. Nothing at all wrong with the others, but haven't regretted coming back to Polaris at all. My 2011 is camo, and so far the only thing I have added is the rear rack extender. Looking forward to better weather so I can start riding again.
