what year is my bike?

I recently traded for a polaris 400 trailblazer. The seller said it was a2003. But a recent trip to the part store to order an air filter said maybe it's not. 03. My airbox has 4 metal clips and a round filter, the books for An 03 show. Something completely diffrent .
I've look around on the frame and see no manufacture date. Haw can I determine this?

If it's above a 1997 year model the VIN will be stamped on the outside edge of the frame rail just in front of the left floorboard. If below a 1997 look for a tag under the seat that begins with a "W" the 2 numbers after the "W" is the year model. Some models will have a tag near the gear shifter. It will be a flat plate on the frame with about a 10 digit number.

You will probably see alot of me. I want to fully restore this quad a lil at a time with minimal downtime between projects.

Ive yet to determine the year, seems all decals and such are removed. Ive posted a link to an album i created to put pics in. May help to solve my mystery.

Without numbers off of the machine or paperwork, I cant tell for sure. They used yellow seats from 1998 thru 2002.

They started building TrailBlazers in 1990, and still build them today (2012 model). Started out as 2-strokes, now are 4-stroke machines.

Did you look on the frame on the left side the vin is there? Look just where the back of the left front fender is towards the tire and you will see it. Use a wire brush. Squat down and look towards the frame and you will see it.

Found it . just has a bit of mud hiding it. last 2 digits are 02. seller claimed was an 03.

Never the less. Look up an 02 or 03 air filter and neither one fit.
Those years show a oval type filter that sits in the air box with the open ends up and down.

The guys at napa went through every filter in their store and i found one that matched my air box. its Round , one open end that clamps onto the airbox in the front with a hose clamp and a little tit on the back that sits in a v shaped grove in the airbox. so no idea why no ones books show the actual filter of my quad. ill post a pic of the filter later.
