In manual it said to change both oil and filter at 20 hours or 1 month. When i bought it dealer said first service is 50 hours.Should i change the oil and filter at 20 hours.Do most use the synthetic oil? Also manual said minimum octane number of 87.Does anyone use higher octane?Does anyone use fuel treatment? My first ATV and i want to take proper care of it.

new to the game also. changed mine after 20hrs. used the polaris kit. depending on what ur riding the k+n filters are nice b/c at the bottom of the filter there is a hex head to get a wrench or ratchet on. been thinking about going with amsoil 0w-40. also didn't hit full throttle until i hit 10hrs on the bike. as for fuel treatment i use star tron. its a stabilizer and ethonal eliminator. plus i get better mileage out of it. u can also use sta-bil the marine grade.

Stick with the polaris oil. DO NOT USE OTHER OIL... And as for the oil change , i did mine at 50hrs. (1300km's) And I thought that was a long time. But thats when my dealer told me to do it.

front a arms on 850 xp touring
I'm new here but not new to atv's. Bought my first one back in 1996 and have had almost every make since then. Son's x girlfriend totaled wife's 660 Grizzly so she said she didn't want to ride her own wheeler any more. We belong to an atv club so we do a fair amount of riding so I was pretty upset. I don't like riding without her (though I have quite a bit) so I asked her if she'd ride one made for two people. I've never wrecked one so she trusts my driving and she said she would. Neither of us care for the utv's so I test drove some of the 2 ups. The Polaris seemed like the best fit for us so we got one. I had to sell my 660 Grizz so along with the insurance money from my wife's wrecked one, we were able to pay cash for the 850. We could have gone with the 550 but I wanted a twin. I don't regret my decision to buy the 850 but have one persistent problem which keeps getting worse as time goes by. The front tires continue to tip in at the top more and more. I don't and have never jumped my machine. It has never been dropped or have gone off an embankment. I'm careful when I ride. Some have said I baby it too much but I want it to last. I'm guessing there is at least 2" difference from the top of the tires to the bottoms. They're leaning in that much. I took it in to the dealer about the middle of 2010 (it's a 2010 model) to see if they could do something about this problem. It wasn't as pronounced back then but I still knew it wasn't right. Their answer was to put new shocks on it off of a Ranger. It didn't help as I knew it wouldn't but I figured what the heck, I was going to be using a snow plow in the winters any way so heavier duty shocks wouldn't hurt anything. I called customer service for Polaris twice. The first time I got ahold of a woman there who has no business being in customer service. The second time she forgot I called before and argued with me about what I was trying to tell her. Anyway the tires just keep tipping in more and more. One guy suggested jacking up the front and grabbing the front tires and rocking them back and forth. I'm going to do that but in the mean time am wondering how many others have had this problem and what they did about it.

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil with no problems. Polairs oil costs too much. I do use all their other products in the rest of the stuff where lubes are required but the Mobil 1 synthetic works fine in the motor and it's aboout half the price.
