Newbie needs help

Hey guys. I just bought my first polaris and so far not happy. Its a 2012 sportsman 850 HO. I have 1.5 miles on it and it will not fire. All it does is crank. After about 5 secs of cranking it backfires. Any Advice??

Welcome to the forum. I would have the dealer come pick it up and get it running the way it should. With it being so new they should go above and beyond to make it right. My bike and a minor problem a few days after I bought it and the dealer drove 30 mile to come get it and brought it back to me when is was fixed.

Thanks for the input. I called the shop and they told me I most likely have fouled spark plugs. Its hard to believe that you cant start this thing a few times brand new. I am taking it in tomorrow night to have them check it out and look it over.

Good luck. Sorry to hear about your problem. Overall I am very happy with my machines. But no company is perfect. Once you get your machine ironed out I am sure you will enjoy it quite a bit. and Welcoem to the board.

For sure take it to the dealer an have them make sure it's running perfectly before you take it home!
I'm guessing the fuel mixture screw isn't set right if it's carbed... Let us know what they find...

yeah the newer efi machines are kinda funny, you cant just start them and let them run a little and shut them off, they start in a rich mode that doesnt shut off till it warms up, when you start it, let it run for a minute or two then take it around the block and warm it up before you shut it down, changing spark plugs to the ngk Iridiums will help,NGK#ILZKAR7A10, stock # 6043, O'reilly's or napa can get them for you. I fouled the champions on mine once when it was new, changed to ngk and havent fouled them since but I dont let it sit and idle anymore either
