Polaris 2500 problem

Hello from El Paso County Colorado! Glad to be here on t his forum!
I have read about alot of issues with the Polaris 2500 winch. Most seem to involve the contactor. My problem seems to be different. Only have used the winch 3 times for plowing. Plowing yesterday and winch stopped lifting. Drum was slipping with any load. Is this anything I can fix myself?

I've just opened my 3500 polaris winch this afternoon. It was full of ICE...everything was locked inside...The motor have started to rust...I cleaned everything and I rebuilded it...work like new now...One thing...if you go in deep water, you should open it and clean it once year...There some o-ring and seal...but it far from perfect...Water came in but can't go out...But inside it's weel made...good luck!

If the drum is slipping, check the free wheeling lock on the side of the unit. Move it back and forth several times then return it to the locked position. That is commonly what happens. I'd try that first.

Thanks for the responses. I have tried moving the freewheel switch a few times with no help. Could the contactor be the issue? It was also pretty cold, could it have froze it up and not released?
