my remanufactured starter over 200 dollers lasted about a year i took it apart and water had gotten in and ruined it.the seales on these things suck.i have a 400 sport, same motor as 400 scrambler.a friend of mine pit his second new starter on and this time he put silacone arround caseing where the rubber seal is .i will do this on my next starter, for now just pull starting.good luck .

if you have a multi meter place the positive were the cable is on the starter and ground the neg to the frame have someone press the button if the power is getting down there (around 12 volts) then the starter is dead. Just did this with 96 300 express.

use a jumper wire or screwdriver to jump the selnoid if it starts its the selnoid if not it could be the starter or poor connections on ground wire or power wire.
