Do new tires have to = clutch kit??
Hey everyone,
I have a 2010 XP 850 with EPS and just bought 27" ITP Mudlites. I had the dealer do the first service and mount the tires. I picked it up yesterday and right away the dealer told me to get a clutch kit before I ripped the rear end out of the machine. I do mostly trail riding but don't want to have any nightmare stories of the rear end getting torn up. Do I really need to have a clutch kit installed or is the dealer just wanting me to spend $$$. Thanks for any suggestions. BTW - I went with 27"/12/14 in the rear and 27"/10/14 upfront. Looks awesome!!

depends on what you are going to do for riding, but my opinion is that you should be good to go with out.
if you play in thick sticky mud it won't hurt to have more low end, but i don't think you will need it. just my 2 cents.

I agree, the stock size is 26". So unless your tire is very heavy or excessively aggressive. You should be just fine.
The clutching in the XPs is much better than previous models.

I agree, for typical trail riding below 4000 ft it will be fine. Just be aware that those larger, heavier tires do eat up some of your low end power and when you're in mud, sand, on a steep hill, or travel to the mountains above 6000 ft, you may need to adjust when you would use low instead of high gear to prevent excess belt slipping.

You will be fine with those tires without clutching. Especially if you are just trail riding. Just remember that even with stock tires you should put the bike in low gear when towing or stuck in the mud. I ride only mud and have one of the most aggressive tires you can buy (29.5 outlaws), and still have stock clutching. Just knowing when to use low gear will keep you out of trouble.
