four wheeler not going into gear grinding

i just got a 1995 polaris 250 trail boss. when i press the throttle the engine stalls. i have to balance the choke and throtle out to keep from stalling. also, when i go to shift into forward or reverse there is a grinding noise and it does not want to engage. does anyone know how to adress these issues?

i fixed the grinding problem but i still have a problem with stalling when i press the throttle please help!!!!

Your fuel system might need some cleaning like your carb.

okay i will do that tomorrow thanks! and also my gear oil in my gear case is leaking i dont really know where it is coming from though so help plzzz thanks!

I found where the OP (tjack) answered someone else!!
"i would put some gear fluid in the gearcase... fill it up to the bottom of the fill hole make sure you do not fill past the threads in the fill hole. hope it works."

The next poster (chopperbill) said "The belt and pulleys are probably grungy from use and causing the driven pulley to turn at idle. Take the belt off and clean it and clean the pulleys. Or your idle is set to high. Or it has the wrong belt on it."

trouble getting into gear (grinding) 350L

I am having the same grinding problem, but it started when my carburetor got fouled. I think it was because I had to keep the idle way up, so once I get my carb cleaned right and back on, my problem may go away.
