Fan switch

Has anyone ever wired a 3 way switch into the fan on there bike. I have a sportsman 800 efi 2008. I want top position switch to act automatic as normal, middle position to be off and bottom position to be on. I'm just not sure which wires to tie into. any help would be appreciated... Thanks

why do you want a three wire swtich?are you overheating?or do you just want to switch on the fan manually?i need more info on why?i can tell you how to do this but i would like to know why.there should be no reason to have to switch it on manually.because you want it to operate normally,on one wire and switched on the other.

I have one wired on my Dodge truck(being able to turn it on manually makes the AC work better in traffic). Being able to turn it on manually is nice on an ATV so if your factory temperature sender or switch goes bad far from home, you can still turn the cooling fan on manually. The way most of the single pole ON-OFF-ON switches are setup, the middle position would have to be automatic, and up would have to be on, and down would have to off. You're better off going with 2 separate toggle switches, it will make wiring alot easier if thats what you want to do.

The reason why i want to wire it this way not that it really matters is simply because i want the added protection in case sensors quite or whatever i want controll over my cooling system.
