Sportsman 400 clutch spring?
Hi everyone, I just bought a 2005 sportsman 400. It has an epi clutch kit on it aparently, and has some parts in the box. This includes a white spring, orange spring, and blue spring, and stock helix and weights. It says the kit is for a sportsman 500 on the box, will this affect anything? I was pulling trees out for a neighbor the other day, and rather then spin the tires it smoked the belt, at like 5k rpm with absolutely no wheel movement. I can only assume the primary spring doesn't engage strong enough? I don't know much about clutches. I got the trees out with a sharp yank of course though. So I am wondering if one of the other springs would be a better choice for me to put in? The machine is not an 800 obviously, so I didn't buy it expecting top end and I don't mind losing some, if it means I can prevent smoking my clutch. I want something that hooks up better. I read that the orange spring should make a difference? Can anyone confirm this? Also, I believe the blue spring is supposed to be in the secondary as an upgrade also, would there be any reason why the past owner chose not to install it? Should I? Or should I buy heavier weights? Or maybe even just got back to stock? I know these are slot of questions, but I am hoping I can use what I have and get what I want out of it, and I just don't understand it well enough to do it myself. Thanks for any input!
Billy
