I just got done installing one in my 2009 XP850 EPS. Will be riding it for the first time this weekend, I'll let you know. Anxious to try it out finally.

I had this kit and was not a fan of it. I love my QSC Mud Pro kit.

first off i only have 27 inch tires, XTR's.
mine is doing the same thing. i was riding at the rock run reuion tour this past weekend, the first time with the clutch kit. going down hill i was on the gas and the brakes at the same time so i didnt drag the rears down the hill.
the clutch engages better but also increases the way in grabs on deceleration.
when stopped on a hill, i was taking it easy when i took off and it seemed like i was up to 3000 rpms before i really got going.
i dont know if i have a problem or it is what it is.
my polaris dealer installed it, so it shouldnt be a problem with the install.
the kit did fine if i was hammering the bike to do hill climbs.
i may be taking mine out unless i can maybe change the engagement rpm. when i get a chance i am going to call epi to see if i can do something with it.
this maybe another one of the should have left well enough alone times!
I am not sure what i am going to do with it.

Just riding mine around the yard...I did email EPI...the response I received back....
I received your email on the 850 xp. The bad news is with that machine it is really hard to ever fix that problem. The kit I thought help a little but did not completely fix the problem. You can try heavier weights usually that makes the machine sluggish and you lose response. It also seems that the lower the engagement the rougher the machine comes on at low speeds. So my only thought is I could recommend you to a lower engagement spring but it may not help completely and you do lose some of the low end punch. Please get back to me on what your thinking and if you want to try one of the two things I have mentioned.

so it seems the two solutions are....... to get used to the way it is or go back to stock and never to do another clutch kit.

My issue was...having a "heavier" set of tires/wheels other than the factory issued (combo). While riding, roughly into 10 miles...the heat from the factory belt/clutch was transferring up through my seat...making the ride very uncomfortable...the "upgrade" should take care of this...I will find out the upcoming weekend....long ride.
Anything over stock tires/wheels...should get a clutch upgrade, especially if the tire/wheel combo(s) have considerable "extra" weight tied to them...we will see....great topic

the clutch kit for the 2011's came without a new helix, so i guess EPI felt that the one from the Polaris was good as it must have changed in 2011. this kit was about $100 less than the one for the 2010's and 09's. i dont know how much of a difference this would make on the operation of the different models
when i first rode it around the yard it seemed that the engagment was only about 400 rpms more but when i had it on a hill it seemed to be twice that.
i too have oversize tires but they are not as heavy or as talll as yours. again i guess i should have left it alone.
i have another ride planned in a few weeks, i will give it another shot as this past weekend i really didnt ride it much as normal, i think i only did 30 miles.

I dont know about that, because I put 27" swamp lights (6 ply) on my 550 and the bigger/heavier tires smoothed the delayed engagement out big time....I lost NO power at all....and I feel that I hooks up quicker with these tires...when I first got the bike I thought something was wrong with the "delayed engagement"...clunk when you hit the throttle, the dealer told me Polaris made the clutch expecting the buyer to put bigger tires on the bike...and not to worry..i put bigger tires on and the clunk went away....
with that being said.my buddy put 28" swamp lights on his 850 and he says he lost considerable bottom end and the clunk got worse..the dealer told him he needed a clutch kit..to recover his bottom end power...and smooth the engagement out
Im know expert this is just what has happened to us....

you should not be dragging the rear tires, the back shift is off, piss poor clutch kit design. i would take out the hunk of crap and get my money back. best thing to do with the 850xp with stock or close to stock size tires is to stay with the stock clutch, unless you really know clutching and how to tune one with a good design kit.
