sportsman 500 silencer full of holes

i have a 96 sportsman 500 and the silencer is full of holes from rusting away and it make anoying rattle sounds from loose rust inside of it is it ok to run it without the silencer until i find a replacment will it hurt the motor/valves from lack of back pressure? i have a cobra slip on from a warrior 350 the slip on is the exact same diamater as the 500 exhaust will that cause to much back pressure would rejetting be required?the cobra pipe goes from being about roughly 3/4-1 inch in diamater then it slowy cones out to about 3inch in diamater with a spark arestor in it

WELCOME!!

That Warrior muffler isn't going to "hurt" anything, its a muffler.

BUT, its very likely it will have LESS back pressure, not more. Also, YES re-jetting your carb for it would be a good thing as a lean condition can occur as the exhaust will flow more and better causing more air thru the engine but not effecting the fuel...causing it to be lean.
