Opinions On Stock Clutching 2011 800

I'm gathering as much information as I Can right now as in a few months I will be purchasing wheels and tires for my 2011 800.

I've decided on a set of 12x7" ITP 212 Wheels in Black & 28"X10" Gorilla Silverback Tires at all 4 corners.

Each tire weighs 30lbs.

What are the opinions of using such a tire in this size and weight with the stock clutching?

I'm not being cheap, because i'm ready to purchase a QSC Mud Pro Clutch Kit, but i've been told I may have trouble getting the stock clutch cover to seal back up once it's open?

I like having equal sized tires at all 4 corners and don't feel the extra 2" of width and nearly 10lbs are needed in the back.

Considering most radial tires even in the 26-27" tire size are 25lbs front, 30-35lbs rear I was thinking this 800 might not need a clutch kit?

If your going to mud the machine, get the clutch kit. The biggest gain from it will be less belt slip. The Polaris covers do not seal well from my experience. If your going to be in mud and water you will want to silicone the cover. Others may have suggestions but thats what i had to do to get mine to quite leaking. Be sure to get NON hardening or it might be tough to get the cover off next time.

i have your exact set up on mine now, 28x10 backs, with wheels, i have 2 inch lift as well, to be honest if your in mud then stay in low, i have talked to a bunch of guys and they all say stock clutch is good as long as you know when to put it in high and low!! good luck bud

I am running stock clutch with 29.5 outlaws with no issues. Mods are listed below. Just know when to use low. As for the belt box cover, the outside seals just fine, it is the inside that you want to remove and put silicone all around. Easy to do if you are already in there installing your kit. Some leak right from the factory.

DDLAWNGUY: Did you need the 2" lift to fit the tires or did you do it just for more clearance?
LOST CAUSE: As always I appreciate your input. I only Mud in low range, I know this much from mudding trucks for years.

The backs rubbed in the middle on stock height, the two inch really helped out with clearance. plus it gave me another two inch of clearance that plus my tires i have a total of 16 7/8 clearance. Lost cause has been a great hellp with questions!!

Do you have stock Springs? I'm thinking HD Springs instead of a 2" lift? But I would conisder a RDC 2" lift if I had to.

Next question with, did the 2" lift cause any extra stress on the axles and have you blown any cv's?

Sorry I have so many questions just barely anyone uses this tire combination on the polaris forum.

yeah im running the stock springs. The lift puts your axles at more of an angle, but ive seen worse. I havent broken any yet, but i havent had a chance to be in real deep stuff yet. Mainly breaking axles comes from your finger more than the tires, if your careful then you should be okay, if your all out then you might as well be saving for some axles.

Yes a lift will put more stress on the axles and you have to realize that you will be running the most aggressive tire available. Silverbacks break axles. Throttle control does come in to play, and knowing when to swallow your pride and just get pulled out instead of trying to show off and throttle out. If you are planning on serious mud riding you must also plan on shelling out some cash when things break.

To Be Honest, I'm not a serious Mud Rider, but the danm terrain I ride in forces me to use a Mud Tire. Even our trail rides end up in Muskeg. I really didn't want a lift on the bike for the exact reason of putting the axles on an angle too much, I was hoping a set of HD Springs would get the lift I needed to clear the 28x10 Monkey's. Worse case though I'll get a 2" RDC lift.

I apprecaite all the comments and feedback though guys thats awesome.

BTW how do they ride on the trail above 5mph? and what psi do you run in them?
