Question K & N Air Filters

Good Day All,

So I have been thinking lately about installing a K & N air filter on my 2011 Polaris Sportsman XP 550. Just wondering if anyone has any comments or suggestions on these types of filters in ATV’s or would it be better to keep an OEM?

I have one installed on my truck and think it works great, just wondering about the ATV world.

Thanks,

IKEA

YUP!

The best advice I can give you is to tell you to but a UNI Filter and forget about the K&N...

Uni foam filter stops so much more dirt. With about 99% of all atv use being in the dust and dirt the K&N lets way to much junk through and that clugs up carbs and wears out reeds and valves.

I have had k-n filters on my atv's for years without problems. I do have a prefilter on it and ride in alot of dust! Rarely do I find dust on the filter the prefilter stops the dust!

Many will say uni filter. I personally run a K&N with no issues so far. There is many posts about uni vs k&N and most say uni, but I have never seen a test done on the two. I would love to see a comparison of the two with an actual test of which one lets through more dirt/dust.

I don't have a k&n on my 850xp yet, but do run one on my yfz450x. The intake on my yfzx is a air box delete leaving the air filter totally exposed. I do run a pre filter and oil it often. Every time I take off the filter to clean and oil it the inside of the intake tube is clean and dust free. I will put one on the 850 as soon as it's needed.

I run K&N on all 5 of my 4 wheelers and both my bikes and have for years. They all have the pre filters and the 4 wheelers see very dusty conditions and I have never had an issue. I have never seen any dust on the inside of the intakes to give me any indication that they are not filtering. The K&N get bashed pretty hard by a few folks on here and I cant say anything to there personal experience but as for me K&N work great.
