Yeah the full a-arm guard design is what I'm looking for, with one of the main attachment points being the underside of the lower arms where there's a cross brace with a hole in it.
I ride mostly non-maintained trails in mixed hardwood/pine forests with river crossings and muddy areas, rocky powerline trails, and the occasional cornfields and farm sand pits. This past years halloween snowstorm took the tops off almost all large trees so these trails are scattered with branches. The practice of stopping every so often during the ride to check for sticks usually yields several stuck in various parts of everyones machines so protection from them is a must.

Also, a clarification. I have the standard full length heavy plastic cv guards on the front and the small half arm ones on the rear.
I never have an issue with the front since all the sticks fly up behind that point. The rears are ok for what they are I guess since they are tough, but they obviously can't provide all around protection which is what I need.
Sooo what I really meant is an A-arm guard. Not sure why I said cv guard, gotta love brain farts lol.
Anyway, what thickness would you recommend for the aluminum. I was thinking 1/8"-3/16"?
1/8" is more than thick enough. 3/16" is probably overkill IMO. It's such a small surface area it would be hard to penetrate the 1/8". But by all means if you have the 3/16" use it. But if you're going to have to buy a sheet and being cost conscious go with the 1/8".
