2004 ATP 500 price

Hi guys,

I'm as newbie as newbies get when it comes to ATVs, but we recently bought a larger property on a couple of acres, and my wife and I have decided to purchase an ATV for helping out with landscaping, plowing snow, and just generally having fun when we go camping. I've been looking on Craigslist for a while now, and have come across a 2004 ATP 500 that I'd like to get your opinion on. I went and took a look at it -- everything is in great shape, rides great, didn't notice any rust or leaks. Original owner, 130 hours, 1400 miles, and he has used it primarily to get around on his property up in Wyoming. Claims to have never taken on trails -- just gravel roads and around the yard. He has annual service receipts for each year he's owned it. Seems to be in really good shape. He was originally asking $4k, and has told me that $3500 is his absolute bottom line, as he has a buddy who has already offered $3600, but not until after tax time. What do you guys think? I've tried to do research through NADA, KBB, Craigslist, eBay, etc., but prices seem to just be completely all over the place.

Oh, and it seems like the general opinion of this year/model is pretty good, but anyone have any reason to sway me in another direction?

Thanks in advance for your help.
-Dave

I have a 2004 ATP 500. I love it. Plenty of power and very reliable. Mine has a few less hours and mileage but has never giving me any problems. The only thing I have done to it is put on a new set of tires. They weren't needed I just wanted them. Mine gets used for Hunting, trapping, riding and working around the house. I put a Polaris Glacier 1 plow system on last year and love that too. I think if you can give him the $3500.00 and walk away with it, it's a fair deal for you. I believe I paid 7k when I bought mine new. The one down side to the ATP is they don't make a lot of accessories for it. Winch and mounts are available with out a problem. I also have a front rack extender on mine. (I have an extra extender if you end up needing one) Good Luck.

Thanks Mike! I did end up buying it -- he offered to deliver it, so that's what sold me. I don't have a trailer of any kind yet, so that was a bigger deal than it would be to most folks. And it just so happened to snow about 5 inches the day after it was delivered. Boy, is that thing fun! I mean, it certainly will be useful to plow snow (in case my wife asks). I ordered a Warn winch and plow, so I'm itching to get them on and see what it can do with the snow. Mike, how much do you want for the rack extender?
