new purchase need advice quick
Have a line on a new browning edition 2009 850 left over . the guy quoted me 8k for the base package with a plow.
what do you guys think?
does EPS make that much difference? Do you think I will need it?
excited and a bit nervous about making final decision, been waiting on this for oh lets see 5-6 years.
I will be just playing on this, trails, mud, some yard work, maybe the occasional log ripping out of the woods and plowing here in NH.
Two of my buddies have can am 800s ....hopefully This gem will keep up
any advice will help. looking to jump soon if you guys and gals think its a decent deal

i assume you're talking about a dealership you're getting it from? hop on a machine without eps, and then the same machine with eps. you'll see the difference pretty quickly i would imagine.
probably won't keep up with the can am's in terms of speed stock, but with a couple minor mods it would be able to easy.

Stay away from the 2009's. There where recalls on them.

Is this it? what else was recalled? not really giving me the confidence I would like 12 hrs prior to plunking down the coin for this ride...
"It looks like they just did a recall on the XP a couple of hours ago as reported by the Associated Press . 4:11 p.m. EST, December 22, 2009.
MEDINA, Minn. (AP) — Polaris Industries issued a voluntary recall Tuesday of roughly 8,500 all-terrain vehicles over problems with the steering.
Polaris said the recall applies to 2009-2010 models of its Sportsman ATVs. The vehicles were sold between February and November at Polaris dealers in the United States.
The company received reports of 19 incidents, but no injuries, involving the ATVs. Polaris said the front suspension ball joint stem could separate from the steering knuckle, causing the rider to lose control. It advised owners to stop using the vehicles immediately.
Those with vehicles affected under the recall are eligible for a free repair.
Polaris made the recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. "

Is this it?
Yep. That was it. It happens. Your car or truck is made from 100's of different manufacturer parts. My new Ford Van had a bad rear door seal. Chit happens. Nothing to get excited about.

If you want, i can check the recall status if you get me the VIN#. Likely the dealer has already done the recall, if not, then have them do it before you pick it up. They should anway. If the recall has been done, i wouldnt even worry about it. I wouldn't sweet it.
It was a combination of a bad choice of supplier, wrong parts, and wrong torque. Havent heard of anybody having ball joint issues after the recall, that at least in no way could of been cause by somthing else. (Like hitting something)

I was trying to decide between an 800XT and an 850 Touring. I had the opportunity to pick up a 2010 800XT demo 2-up (fully loaded) for $8500. I chose the Polaris for the smoothness and the superior EPS. Those were my priorities. If a sportier suspension, flat out speed, and all the "goodies" were my priority, I would have gone with the Outlander. It probably depends on your age and riding style as to how important EPS is. I do know that in the 3 days I have had it, I am really impressed and can see why others say once you experience EPS, you won't go back. As for power, I have heard the 800's are the fastest utility quad out there. I have not opened my 850 up yet (I probably never will) but I hear top speed is supposed to be over 70mph! Do you really need to be going any faster than that? What dollar value do you put on keeping up with your two buddies? If its important to you, can you afford to make the mods that cookies referred to earlier in this thread? How much do you need the accessories that come with the Browning edition? If you need them, can you afford to put them on a 2011 EPS model? With the 09, you are really buying a two year old quad, and how important to you are the improvements made during those two years? How long do you keep your quads? Will trade in value be important to you? You have waited a long time to make this purchase, take a couple more days, if necessary, to be certain you are comfortable with your choice. Best wishes with whatever you decide and keep us posted!
