Deal or no deal

Ok, came across what looks to be a good deal but I need some more advice. 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 Automatic with 2500# winch and 60" Polaris 2-way razor plow. 12" aftermarket rims, Mud-Lite XL tires 26". Front storage box (a must for me) Heated Hand grips, rock sliders (don't know what those are, any help?) hand guards. Says all 4 drive axels, CV joints and boots were replaced in '09 with heavy duty aftermarket along with brake shoes. K&N air filter, and has new drive and driven clutches installed last year with the '06 upgrade kit. The only thing wrong with it is the speedometer doesn't work, or only works when it wants to. He's asking $3995 which I think is a pretty good deal, but wanted to get some more input. I e-mailed him to see if he knew approx how many miles/hours where on it and he estimated about 2500-2800. Can I find a new speedometer pod for this model relatively cheap and would the installation be fairly straightforward? The one thing my wife really likes about it is that it's bright yellow so it wouldn't match her indy red sportsman. LOL Thanks for the help guys!

Does the AWD work since the Speedo doesn't always work?

According to KBB the Suggested Retail Value on a '01 Sportsman 500 4x4 is only $2755. Now considering it does have a "busted" speedometer I don't know if that price can even be fair. I just don't want short change the guy, but I also don't want to over pay anything. Anyone else have any other input?

It is ten years old and even with the extra's, the owner has on it , it still asking a bit much.Plus the speedo. doesn't work plus whatever else is wrong with it and sometimes those K&N filters do more harm than good

^^ what he said! the price is rather high for a quad that old and you have no idea how many miles are really on the quad. i bought a 02 700 sportsman for 2200 then got 200 back for parts just for an idea on a price.

Yeah, not sure if it's the area where everyone else is buying there quad or not, but it seems here in KC they are always higher. He said he would go as low as 3700, and that the exact same quad goes for 3200 without the winch, plow, bumpers, tires, wheels and such. I'll sit on it for a while and keep looking around. $4000 for a 10 year old quad????I don't care what accessories are on it...the quad itself is the most important thing you're buying..save yourself another $1500 and you can buy a 2011 500HO! Too many people look at what used quads come with, and if you're not getting an excellent running machine, the optional things are worthless!
