2005 Sportsman 800 EFI Twin
I have just started the search for a good used ATV and I stumbled upon this message board so I thought I would reach out for your help. The ATV is listed for $4,650.00 and judging by the pictures it looks to be in great condidion. It has 1,800 miles on it and the seller says it's been stored in a heated garage.
I have looked up this ATV on kelly blue book they have the following prices listed for it:
Retail: $4,455.00
Trade-In: $3,060.00
Again, he has it listed for $4,650.00. I was thinking of offering him $3,900.00 and thought I would check in with you guys to get some feedback if possible. This quad does NOT have a plow, winch, or anything additional that I know of.
Thanks in advance

From my recent purchase I noticed the used market seems very high. The only people I found offering blue book pricing was dealers and those were high mileage machines.

Just for your comparison, I recently purchased a 2006 800 EFI LE with a 60" plow, winch, aluminum wheels, heated grips and thumb, etc. for $5800 with just shy of 80 miles and 20 something hours on it.

I'm torn on what to offer this guy but I want to also walk away knowing I got a hell of a deal. Can anybody else weigh in on this for me? I would like to go look at the machine in the next day or two if it's still available so your feedback is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Are there any known problems with this year/model that I should be aware of?

Brought a 2005 Sportsman 700 Twin EFI home last weekend. Its the Mossy Oak Hunter edition (heated grips and throttle) and came with Warn winch, 60" Glacier gen 1 plow, Polaris rear box and had a shade over 1k on it. Price was $4200, so I considered that a fair price.
Known issues with the 2005 Sportsman Twin include:
1) Recalls on the ECU (supposedly only on the carb model, not EFI)
2) TBAP wiring breaks or stress fractures as it runs over the throttle body (weakening of the wires from vibration)
3) Overheating issues when the radiator gets caked up with mud or dirt/dust.
In researching these issues, they are generally easy to correct for a few $$.
1) Check the VIN and see if the ECU was one of the recalls. Or buy an EFI model
2) Purchase a $40 TBAP wiring replacement, or make your own (prreferred) with thicker gauge wire.
3) Pick up a fan rocker switch for your pod from Quadovator and pair that with their matching autometer temp gauge

found another guy in the area that has a 2006 700 EFI with a winch and mudzilla tires with only 1500 miles on it for $3,900.00. I'm thinking the year new with less miles with a winch and mudzillas is a better deal than the 800 with nothing.
What do you think? This is a fun process however I can't wait to just make a damn decision!
