99 Polaris 400 Xplorer 4x4
Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 1999 Polaris Xplorer 400 4x4. The 4wheel drive currently isn't working and the guy who owns it said he was told that if the speedometer isn't working then the 4wheel drive won't engage. He said that the 4wheel drive quit when his speedometer quit. My question is, is it just coincidence that the 4wheel drive quit the same time or does the speedometer actually have something to do with it? Also, what do you think it would cost to have this repaired, best case & worst case? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the speedo cable loose at the transmission and see if when spinning it the speedo moves. If it does then it ia internal in the transmission. If it does then it may get expensive. If it doesent it may just be the cable.

99 Polaris 400 Xplorer
I am more worried about the 4wheel drive. If I can get it fixed relatively inexpensive then I will for sure buy it. Let me know what you guys think it might be.
