Help!! 02 sportsman 500+plow $3500
Ok, i am wanting your opinon. I am looking at an 02 Sportsman 500 + a large plow on it. it has 2200 miles on it. also has chrome wheels (although i think these might be stock???) this is my first four wheeler. i was thinking of offering $3000 cash to them. Its a Polaris Dealer.
SO is this is a good deal?
Does this yr of Sportsman have digital speedometer? or the round dial type?
i appreciate any input. i am pretty much clue less since this is my first one.

i pretty sure that year has a round display and that is alot of money for a 9 year old quad but dealers do try to sell them for alot more then they are worth.

Kellt bluebook values that bike at $2860.00 and says the average mileage will be 12600. That price is retail and only the bike.
Hope this helps!

Quad Hunter
Amanda
I used quadhunter.com to help look for mine. While I actually found it on craigslist, quadhunter helped me know what they were going for in the Midwest. I was following craigslist all throughout Michigan and finally found mine right in my area. The poster had put the quad in motorcycles and not RVs and had run sportsman into X2 (sportsmanx2) so my search for a sportsman did not return his add. Be creative!

Be super carefull on Craigs List. I was looking there several weeks ago and there was a lot of scams going on. Here in central Illinois I pretty much gave up on finding a nice used quad. Ones I did find were priced so high that I ended up purchasing new. Right now there are some pretty good rebates and financing interest rates at Polaris. The Sportsman 500 retails for right at $6000.00 new for 2011. Take the rebate which I think is $300.00 and a dealer who wants to sell to take of some more. Financing through Polaris right now at 3.99% as well. With what you were going to spend for the 2002 you are pretty close to a new one. Nicer ones that I did find were at farm implement dealers. Might look at the dealers in your area who are implement dealers and check them out. Farmers tend to take good care of there equipment.

IMHO that would seem high for an '02. I paid $3800 for my 2007 Sportsman 500 EFI camo with 2000 miles (loving it!). Having said that, I also walked away from many deals over the last couple months before I landed that one. I think it depends on patience vs pocket book. Are you needing a machine right now or do you need a better deal? Walking into a dealer and paying MSRP is always an option as they have plenty of them if you aren't looking for a deal. I wanted to find a great deal so I looked for several months in a wide area. It really just depends on your situation.
Regarding CL, I buy and sell things on their several times a month and have had nothing but good experiences. You must always give something the 'sniff test' before even emailing the person. If it's to good to be true then it probably is.

I would say that an 02 is not worth that much money, check out the new ones, good deals out there on left over models.

Farmers in my area don't take of atv's. Across rice fields, spraying chemicals with them(which damages plastics, buy new plastic and sell it for excellent condition.LOL) I work at a parts store and when it rains is the time the oil is changed on equipment. It is dry most of the summer. So sometimes the oil change don't occur as often as it should.
