If I were in your position I would get the 550xp eps over the 800. Now keep in mind that the difference in the 2 machines is fa beyond just engine displacement. The suspension is wayy better the ride quality, handeling, and ergonomics will be much better. Power steering is amazing. If you really want to be king get an 850XP. Just curious as to where are you located?

For any of your performance needs I would go with only Hotseat performance. I dont work for them just love there GREAT service and their amazing products!

I just bought a new 2011 Sportsman 800 efi yesterday. This thing is a sweet. If you are looking for a torque monster i think it may be hard to beat the motor and the gearing in the 800. Now no doubt the 850XP is faster, but you are also gonna pay $2500 more for it. I was in the same position trying to decide if I wanted the 550xp or the 800 because the price is better on the big bore. My stand was the 800 uses the old polaris proven technology and I am planning on running bigger tires so I wanted the torque so they would not labor the motor. I really think no matter which way you go if the XPs are anything like my new 800 efi you wont be dissappointed

I bought my 2011 Sportsman 400 HO from Boundary RV & Marine. Is that where you looking to buy?

My brother and law works there as a ATV/Marine mechanic. So I guess I'm biased. But I think its a good place to buy. I haven't had a problem with my quad yet and I have 2180KMS on it already.

The 800 is an excellent machine but they are quite thirsty on fuel compared to your 500 HO. The torque is very impressive and the sound of the twin cylinnder machine is very cool. I have never heard of any negatives on the 800 - a proven platform.

I would go 550 but you certainly should get what you want.
