Thoughts (New or Old)

Well I have got the bug, perhaps its because its spring time and the mountains will be snow free soon but I have been hearing allot about the Sportsman 550 EFI.

I currently have a 04 Sportsman 700 Twin "Carb" and it runs and rides great. but like I said Ive got the bug for a new one. I know I should be happy with what I have but EFI would be nice. I am not sure if the power would be equal or not.

What are all your thoughts on my 700 vs a new 550 EFI?

I'm thinking your 700 will have more power then the 550 efi.
"The twin is smother running then the single cylinder" this is a quote I've
read but don't remember who said it or if it's truly true.

You say efi would be nice, do you have any problems with your carbed
700?

Again you say your 700 runs & rides great just got the bug for a new one.
Do you have any mods done to your 700? If not not, maybe some
upgrades to the 700 can make it seem like a "New" machine depending on
what may be available for that year & model. Thinking off the top of my
head some larger tires, clutch kit, new exhaust...you get the picture.

But if you got the bug & the cash, then go for it

Welcome!

I know all about the fever!!!

Last fall my father and I bought three machines. He bought a brandy new XP 550, I bought a very lo mileage 2007 700 EFI and last but not least a 2000 trail Boss for my wife to learn on.

The 700 has much more "grunt" than pops 550 in the woods. On the open trails its close, but mine is faster. Both are much faster then the Trail boss. But its got about 15HP!! LOL

The 700 is much smoother running and sounding. I wouldn't give it up for one second!

The XP is a very nice machine. Its steering is FAR easier than mine or the wife's! I think you will like the XP, but you will miss the torque and smoothness of your 700.

with a pipe, filter and jetting the 700 is a night and day difference. they are great machines. please go test drive one of the new ones before you get rid of a great running 700 twin. i think you would regret it. just my 2 cents worth.

I have a feeling that, in your situation, you'd be happier with an 850 XP than a 550. Best wishes!
