2008 sportsman 800
I just bought this machine, sight unseen. My old lady and my best friend went and checked it out for me since I'm on the road. It sounded like a pretty good deal so I bought it.it has 2700 miles on it, a quick release plow, and a winch. Hand guards, and the camo color also. What do you guy think? I paid 4350

Change your fluids, and be careful to check over your transmission properly. Listen for any clunking, or hard engagement. Otherwise sounds good to me

Thanks for the reply trailboss. I'll give her the good ole' how do you do as soon I get home and pick it up. I didn't think to change the fluids but that's probably a safe bet so I know when they were done.

ok i just picked it up, i'm not impressed with the read suspension. i'm a good sized feller but i think it should way tighter than it is when it is tightened all the way. any idea if you can rebuild these shocks? and how much it would cost? thanks.

You would probably be farther ahead just replacing them. They shouldn't be too expensive, and it would require quite a few special tools and a bit of experience to do it. Shocks are something I have yet to rebuild, but are something I would prefer not to. It can be dangerous if done incorrectly. I'm not even sure if the Polaris ones are rebuildable. It should be able to handle the weight no problem, my dad weighs 270lbs and I weigh 185, and we both ride two up on mine no problem, with him on the back. It is very similar rear suspension, if not identical

Before you spend money on shocks, where is the preload set at? The rear springs are adjustable.

If your machine is sagging it is the springs not the shocks. Order you some HD springs from EPI or Highlifter and be done with it. They are easy to install.

ok i'll probably go that route. i haven't had a chance to tighten the last notch but it is only one notch from the top. and now that i have put a few (15) miles on it... i hear a noise that doesn't sound right to me. it sounds like a chain sort of noise, kinda like teeth barely grinding. it's hard to explain, but i think this machine was used to pull stuff and such as a farm wheeler. how do i check the transmission to see if that's where the noise is coming from? any ideas?
