New or well used?

I've been looking at ATV's for a while. I need to come up with a solution to plow my driveway and this seems like the most logical investment. After looking at lots of different brands, models, etc. I have decided to stick with Polaris.

The question is this... I thought at first that I would be looking strictly used machines, but I've been in to the dealers and there are some pretty good deals on new machines... even the financing offers are appealing. So do I get into something that I can easily pay cash for or do I bite the bullet and finance for a new machine.

I found what seems to be a killer deal on a used Polaris Magnum 450 with a plow (manual lift). Here is the Craigslist link... I haven't seen it yet (it's about a four hour drive) but I have spoken to the owner and it seems to be a legitimate machine.

As far as the new machine goes, I'm looking at the 2012 Sportsman 500. Winch and plow would be mounted at the dealer and it would be a pretty slick machine out the door.

Everyone tells me that these machines are bomber and are tough to kill. So, do I take a $1500 chance on a machine that's 15 years old or do I make a longer term investment on a new machine?

Thanks for any advice.

Ben

I always prefer to purchase a clean used unit with low miles. Better for someone else to take the hit when the quad leaves the shop.

If all you are looking for is a plow machine I would be inclined to get the Magnum. A plow and winch set up on a new machine is close to a grand alone.

If you are looking to use it for more I would look into a newer or new machine.

Just my. 02 cents.

Thumbs up

I've always enjoyed NEW...over used. That is not to say that I have not had a few good used vehicles over the years. But...my preference is NEW...with all the goodies that goes with it!

Just my .02........

I was thinking the same thing..but I don't care how clean a used atv is..that thing could have been sunk in the worst mud hole you can imagine..they may say it has never even seen rain or some bs like that but I would get new and definitely get the longest extended warranty possible (I wish I did) and honestly as far as the 500 you can't go wrong but I'd get a new left of 2011 550 with power steering...its not just a bigger motor but the suspension and all is 10x better.
