07 Sportsman 800

Picked this up yesterday...

It was a friend of mines wheeler, he traded up for an 850 so I bought this off him. It has around 90 hours and 1100 miles. I bought a 2010 500 back in January but now that is my wifes machine...she was riding an 06 450 so it was a nice upgrade for her...pretty big difference in power/handling between her 450 and the 500.

Now I finally have the type of machine that I've been wanting! This 800 has 27" mud lites on SS rims and already had HID's in it so I just tossed in a relay for the 3 headlight mod...now maybe I'll get a QSC clutch kit and toss into it...This is my first big bore machine and first time i've ever run any tires other than stock so it should be interesting...

I only have photos of it on the trailer right now from when I brought it home...planning a ride this weekend up in Houlton, Maine to see how I like it!

Sweet ride! Those XTR's look brand new! I am sure you'll love the power of the 800 over the 500. I am thinking of doing the same as you (give the wife the 500 and get a big bore). Good luck with it!

The XTRS on this thing are almost brand new...my buddy only used them 3 or 4 rides...they might have 300 miles on them...

I rode this thing a couple times when he still had stock tires on it and it was an animal...I rode with him one time after he got the XTRS on it and it still seemed like it was tearing it up...I'll be interested to see how it all goes. This is the first big bore, first EFI and first atv with oversized tires...so its a whole new animal!

CW- When you guys decide to come up again let me know, I'd love to meet up with you guys and do a little riding. We usually have a group of 4 to 6...most of us are pretty tame...we ride to have fun and go easy...especially when our wifes are with us--which they usually are.

Got my first 40 miles in this weekend on this beast...LOVE IT.

The Mud Lite XTR tires are animals in the mud...at least compared to stock tires. I got into some light mud and was really roosting...the wife had to fall way back so she wouldn't get covered haha. They are different on hard pack though...kind of float a bit. My wife road the 800 for about 200 yards then pulled over and wanted to ride the 500 again...it was floating too much making her nervous. Is this normal? I talked to the guy that I bought it from and he said he had that problem at first but then after riding it a bunch he got used to it quick and it didn't float on him anymore.

The 27's definitely take away from the the wheelers ability to break out...but once you get rolling its all good. I may have to get a clutch kit...anyone running an EPI kit in an 800 with 27's? What color springs are you running?

I know some of you swear by QSC...do they have different springs that they run?

haha yeah jumping into the 800's is a huge change from a 500 or a 600...

The first time I road this when my buddy originally bought it, he still had the stock tires on it...I mashed the throttle and went from gravel onto pavement then back onto gravel and there was smoke pouring off the tires from how hard they were spinning lol...

I see you got a new 800 and your wife a 550...do you see a big difference in those 2 machines? One of my friends is considering a 550 but isn't sure if it will be enough machine for him...

Difference.....yes, the 550 is a great all around bike with plenty of power and the ride is great! I would have owned one myself...but it was the last one left in the area and all the dealers had were 800's. But in saying that, I have always been a power junky,,,truck has exhaust, intake, programmer, and tranny work done so the 800 was a no brainer for me, HAHA. I can outrun the 550 anyday on my 800. Plus it has more options out right now in performance mods and tire selection is huge where the 550 has a small selection only right now.

I hope this helps you out!

Mornin man,
Will def drop you a line when we know we will be visiting!!

I have a couple questions... what is breaking out? What is float?

By float, do you mean squirrelly on hard pack, or unresponsive from steering? I dont imagine what break out is...

My 550 is quite a bit more than pops 550, mine simply pulls are the "R"s build while the 550 jumps but dawdles thru the mid range than picks up a bit as you get up to 5G's. But its too little too late, the 700 just goes. I know the 800 builds power the same, almost identical but +!
