sportsman 800 2012 vs xp 550
I see that in my area those two machine hover at about the same price. Is it worth to sacrifice the cc's for the 550? Does anyone own both could tell the the difference in handling and comfort? I'm looking for a cushy cadillac ride, good handling and performance. Thanks!

My wife and I have both the 550 and the 800. Both are 2011 models. As for ride the 550 is hands down wonderful, but my 800 has the power and ride that is good for me. Either way its a win win!

everybody so far is saying the XP chassis is hands down a better ride, I own both a 800 (mine), and a 850 (wifes), I really don't notice much of a difference in the ride, other than the narrow seat on the XP, but the stearing is way better on the XP (I don't have EPS), and turns alot sharper, I really don't notice a big difference in handling, or plusher ride between the two.

I had a similar quandary last year... I bought a super clean used 700 over a brand new 550...pop bought the 550.
Here is what I see/feel, riding both. NO difference in ride suspension wise.
Steering much easier on the XP.
Seating feel thinner on the XP. Personally, I don't have a problem with the width of the seat on my 700. But I also am used to riding horses.
Power, the 700 has more grunt, the 800 has more than the 700....
Acceleration about the same but the 700 will beat the 550. Again the 800 is a bit faster still.
Handling, edge to the XP with its easier steering, but virtually the same.
The 700 is MUCH smoother idling and running up into the mid-range than the 550. After that they are about the same.
Exhaust note, the 700 sounds better, more powerful and a bit throatier.
Over all Experience...Come on... its a Polaris... Go buy one and RIDE!!!

I found the xp more comfortable to sit on with it's narrower seat, I do agree steering(non eps) is easier
