I would, got the extended warranty on my '11 500 HO and just this past weekend a shock broke it was a defect but i only had to pay $50 compared to the estimated $375 repair. I would get it just my 2 cents. If you plan on actually using it its worth it.

I just bought a 2012 500 H.O. and I have never been 1 to buy extended warrenties but with this 1 I plan on keeping it a while so I opted for the 5yr. plan. I have been meaning to ask myself how people's experience with warrenty issues have went and what they will and won't fix. Getting warrenty work done on Harley-Davidson is like pulling teeth.

Depends on the dealer, some try their best ,some just don't care. Just like cars, some good dealers some not so good.

this is my opinion, I have a 09 800, and just bought a new 2010 850 XP this summer, I bought extended warranty for my 800, wishing I hadn't, so unless I end up with a pile of problems with my 850, I won't be buying extended, and I'll tell you why. In Canada extended warranty is $2020 for an additinal 54 months, which makes it a total of 5 years with factory 6 months figured in, plus the $50 deductible after the first intial 6 months. I beleive in riding your new atv (after the break in procedure) a little harder than you normaly would ride, if you want something to break, you want it to do while under warranty, the extra $2000 would pay for alot of repairs in the shop (don't forget to add in the additional $50 ded. each visit). IMO if you take care of your machine, I doubt that you would add up to that much money in repairs, also I can do alot of repairs myself, so it would just be parts that I would need to purchase. Also keep in mind that not all break downs would be covered, for example axles are usually not covered, boots for sure wouldn't be, batteries are not usually covered, body plastics are not covered, etc. The only way I would see having the extra warranty as beneficial is if you blew an engine, or tranny, which is almost un herd of with polaris machines. If your polaris ATV is in the shop that many times after the the first 6 months that the extra $2000 (plus deductable, which can add up pretty fast) would be worth while, then you either need to rethink your style of rideing (which the dealer can almost always tell if the problem is rider misuse, or factory defect), or you need to sell the bike and buy another because its a bad lemon, and it wouldn't take me long to figure out if I have a lemon or not.

I bought a 550 Sportsman EFI EPS with the extended warranty. I had 60 days to cancel the warranty to get a full refund. After that period its prorated minus any claims you may have made. In a sense it may give you piece of mind. As the other threads mentioned it all depends on the dealer and how they will work with you. Keep in mind I purchased the 550 in Tucson, Az, so be sure to read your warranty for both the giveth and taketh on whats covered and not covered in your contract. My take, I want the piece of mind, but if I don't use the warranty, so be it. Best of luck and enjoy your new adventures.

Good Call idler8.. I'm in Canada as well and laughed in my dlrs face when he told me how much the warranty was.. 2 season's later and I haven't spent a dime on repairs, let alone anything that would have been covered under warranty..
I've changed out the scheduled fluids, I keep it greased and clean and have had no problems..
$1000 isn't bad I suppose.. Not a deal, but not a rip off either..

Not sure if it fluctuates by the area you live in but I was just offered one on a new 2012 Sportsman 500 HO for $700. I opted out of it since it wasn't worth it for me plus I've read up on them a bit and it's more for piece of mind as mentioned above. According to some reports on extended warranties, they are money makers for the dealers and that's why they push them. Honestly, not recommended and I'm not sure if you can haggle the price on them either. Just my opinion. Take if for what's it worth.

ok guys here is my take on extended warrenty.i bought a 08 800 sportsman at 4 seasons motor sports in vernon bc canada.the extended warrenty was 1500 for 4 1/2 yrs and was told by the dealer that i had 30 days to buy it.i was also told that it i didnt use it i would receive back my money minus 175 dollar fee.i thought they were telling me a story.so i found out who it was through and called them and found out it was true.i also got everything in writing. it is through farmers insurance in the states.i live in canada and thought they were crazy but i have proof in writing from the insurance co so i think im good to go.can only get my money back if i dont use the warrenty.so i bought it just in case.i have another 2 yrs and have no plans on useing it so i will let u know if it was to hahahaha
