Exclamation Buying a 250 TrailBlazer points to look out for?

As above, Im going viewing a Polaris TrailBlazer with the intention of buying later today, what are the main points to look out for on these atv's and also do ye recommend them as a good machine? Im a little concerned about them being auto as I think manual would be more fun for sideways action and the likes.
Are these atv's good fun and powerfull compared to rival 250cc 4stroke manuals?

Hope ye can help.

Mark from Ireland

Welcome Mark,

I do not know how mechanically inclined you are, but they are pretty easy to scope out. You are looking for the usual signs of fluid leaking on any of the cases or the frame rails, check out all of the rubber hoses and components for cracks or breaks. Especially the motor mounts. I believe there are 3 rubber motor mounts. You want to push on the motor and see if the rubber separates.

The biggest indicator will be riding it. Does it start easy? Any ticking? Are you familiar with 2 strokes, and how they idle run? How does it take off? Any squeals?

Basically looking for any noises that are not a good sign on any mechanical machines. These machines are super simple though. They are also pretty fun, it will get sideways for you!

A 250cc 2-stroke is going to be faster and quicker then a 250cc 4-stroke, since on a 2stroke you are getting ignition on every stroke, where as a 4stroke only has ignition on every other stroke.

Take a compression tester and test it. You'll know if it needs a top-end rebuild. Anything 100 psi or lower and will need a rebuild. 125 psi would be around stock I believe.
