Ask if the warranty is good at any Polaris dealer or just his. The dealer where I bought mine was willing to give me a discount off the regular price Polaris quotes but it would only be good at that dealer. If you do a search there are several threads on extended warranties. For what its worth, I got the 3 year extension from Polaris.

I never got the extended warranty on my 08 500 . In over 13,000 miles I never needed it Polaris is a rock solid reliable machine . I would of wasted my money big time I'm using the money saved for gas

I did get a 4 year extended for $700 good at any Polaris dealer. After having 5 Polaris machines I have learned that having a warranty is a good thing. Some never have issues but others have some. Overall a very reliable brand but these are offroad machines that take a beating. The XP line is still somewhat new for them now and they are still working out the kinks (major transformation from the old models). Both my 09 XP's (First model year of the XP) needed to have axle replacements not to mention the recall on the ball joints and vapor hose. EPS is over 1500.00 to get fixed.
Any ATV will have issues and I am very happy with mine. Time will tell whether it was a good call or bad to get the warranty. You have six months to decide so you can wait until your time is almost up to see how your ATV is holding up.
If you do decide to get one, the dealer does have a lot of markup on the warranty so don't be shy asking for a lower price!

It seems I'm the exception but I"ll chime in anyway.. I didn't bother with a warranty at all.. I have 800km's on my 850 touring and haven't had a problem.. I put in my due diligence with maintenance and this thing is rock solid.. Done some hard riding with it and even rolled it over!.. (see my old post called "rolled my touring now oil in air box" turned out the oil was from the rollover not the alleged defect).. A warranty costs about 25% more in canada than you guys are paying but even at $900 that's brush guards and a winch.. If something breaks I'd rather pay for a cost I can see and touch, not a maybe..
Granted, its possible I could eat these words but so far so good.. No one's wrong to get a warranty, this is just my experience..
