2008 Touring 800 vs 2011 Touring 500
Looking to purchase a new Polaris Touring.
Came down to two local options for what looks like decent prices. Both are new at local dealers not used.
2008 Touring 800 is listed 7299.00 plus tax and all the licensing stuff. Bet they will try to stick me with fees for freight and all that.
2011 Touring 500 is listed for 6099 plus tax and all the licensing stuff. Probably try on the freight and all that too.
Leaning more towards the 2008 since it's got the bigger engine and from what I have read on here seems the plastics are better.
Don't really need the bigger engine per se but can't hurt other than gas mileage.
Any recommendations from this group of owners?
Looked for used for a while and can't find one in the 2up configuration other than a 2008 500 X2 for 5500.
Also anyone had any luck with dealers and getting any prices breaks for paying cash?
First time buying an ATV but not the first time riding one.

$1200 seems to be quite a hefty difference to get an 800 when the machine is 3, almost 4, years old now.
Not that it isn't a good deal, $6099 for a 500 touring is better than what I have seen around me. That's $1300 below MSRP.

Definitely noted on the age of the machine.
KBB says 6,205 right now. So I guess it is a bit over what it's worth according to KBB.
Maybe I can used that as a leverage point with the dealer.

Thanks Bruce
Glad to be here. Been wanting an ATV for a while and have done a bit of research before landing on a brand I like.
Have found this forum quite useful for getting more information from actual owners of Polaris machines.

Exactly...what antoniodef said.
IMHO...I'd go with the 500 Touring...and save that cash for the accessories you are going to install! Yeah...we all just about go accessory crazy with a new machine.
Good luck...and let us know how it turns out.

Ended up with the 500 after finding out the 800 sold before I get there.
Not a big deal to me since the 800 was another hour and half down the road.
Price was right and they cut me a deal on the extended warranty and dealer handling fees.
OTD = 7,900
Now to find some accessories.

HID lights are the best thing I've done.
Also, if you are going to do the reverse override, 3 headlight mod, heated grips and HIDs, do them all at once if you can. I have found the pod doen't like to be taken apart a million times since the screws are just in plastic.
