What's a good price for a 2012 Sportsman 500?
Hi guys, I've been shopping for a 2012 sportsman 500 HO (red). I found one thread on here where a guy got 2 of them in August for 5188 each + tax and prep. My local shops are saying freight and prep is about $200 so that makes those prices right at $5400.
I'm in Dallas, Polaris website shows current rebate at $500 and MSRP at 6199, so 'retail' price is 5699.
When I bought a PWC a couple years ago, I used a service called cyclebuy.com which gave the dealer invoice price of the machines. (you bought the reports for $15 each). This service no longer exists, but I do remember that dealer markup was about 15%. I see markup as only 600-800 on these machines.
Anybody have any ideas?

I got a 2011 OTD for 5585 in January. Tax you cant help, but freight and set up are all negotiable.
I find it best to get the best deal you can at one dealer, then call another asking them to beat it. Keep going until no one will budge.

Have you checked Family Powersports in Weatherford? That's where I purchased my 2010 Sportsman 500 about a year ago. They treated me right.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been haggling with one of the places here in town and he has backed off the 5700 dollar price to 5400; only to add 400 freight and 250 assy....I don't think so.
The best deal I've found so far is 5700 (which is retail) plus ttl, which equals to right at 6200 as Ollly mentioned. (these guys just happened to be straight up with me on the price too, saying they don't charge freight and prep, that is just part of being a dealer. huge bonus in my book).
Thanks Kalani I will check out the place in Weatherford.
I really appreciate the input guys, please keep it coming!

The only problem I see with the 5700 deal is they aren't lowering the price at all, just giving you the factory rebate.
Sounds like you deals are getting better though.

I'm still shopping around guys. No luck with Weatherford; they wouldn't give me a price over the phone, only the standard salesman "we can beat any deal" nonsense...if I come in there. Unless they can give me a price there is no reason for me to come into the store.

Yea a lot of places do that unfortunately. Your best option might be to visit some of these dealerships and haggle in person. That is, if you haven't already.

That is the same problem I run into. I know what I want before I decide, I don't need to come in to have you try to sell me something. I have found two dealers I usually use that give me quotes over the phone. When I show up I just wanna sign the papers and go.
Look at the good side, when you are all done with this you will have a new ATV!

Oregon can't help
In Oregon, the best deal I have found is 6 grand...plus a couple of hundred for BS. Sorry.
