I haven't read all of these posts, but if you are trying to decide between a 550 or an 850. PLAY IT SAFE and get the 850. You don't need to use the power, however, it is very important you have access to it. You will regret the 550. If they price difference was EXTREME, I would understand consideration for it, but they difference is minimal. Just my opinion.

I rode both the 550 X2 and a 850 touring this past weekend at Amargosa Dunes. For those who say the power is nearly the same...YOU ARE WRONG! The 850 crushed the 550 going up the hills. I was able to crest every hill on the 850 with ease...can't say the same on the 550. The 550 didn't exactly suck (very nice machine) but the 850 was almost scary, especially for an 800 lb machine.
