Bought two ATV's this weekend

Picked up two ATV's for my 14 year old and I this past week.

First:

1998 Polaris 425 Magnum 4x4 with 1k miles, moose plow and 2500 pound winch, new chain and front bearings. Paid $1600

Issues:
Missing broken speedo, otherwise runs great so far and looks pretty good.

Second:

2000 Polaris 500 Sportsman 4x4 with 80 hours and 250 miles.. turns out I replied to a Craigslist ad for someone I knew here in town. Came with towing kit, a second set of ITP "grass tires"? and rims, shock protectors, hand protectors, manual plow, Polaris cover, Polaris ATV jack, alum ramps, two new helmets and new battery. Paid $3700

Issues:
Installed battery is dead.
When in reverse I have to hold the override button in to get it to move... is this normal?

I feel like I may have paid a little too much for the 2000 but I was able to work out a deal to pay $1000 down and pay the rest interest free over 12 months.

How did I do and what are grass tires? He said he paid $1500 for them?

Thanks!

Welcome Congrats on your purchases

What you speak of sounds like the reverse override button and it is totally normal. There is a reverse limiter that you need to disengage to get full throttle and 4x4 in reverse. If it becomes annoying to you, there are ways to bypass it.

Not sure about grass tires, but $1500 sounds a little steep for any tires IMO.

Sometimes there are circumstances that make it a deal for you, at that moment in spite of the actual dollar amount. No regrets. Now get out there and enjoy them!

Maybe, most sets I looked at were around $800-$1000 with rims and radials so it's possible

Welcome emillika & enjoy the new toys.
If you gently push the throttle when your in reverse does it move at all?
If you can only get it to move by pushing in the reverse override button that dont sound rite.

I'm assuming by grass tires you mean lawnmower tires. Some places make ATV size tires in a tread pattern that looks like a lawnmower tire. That way your more aggressive mud tires don't tear up your lawn if you are using your ATV for mowing. Still, seems like they would be cheaper than regular tires, not more expensive.

Ya.... I don't know why he bought them but I know he bought everything from the local dealer which was known for very high prices.

Anyone help with where to find quality add-on's for these older atv's? Maybe upgraded racks and I would like to change the color from red to camo with static wrap of some sort.

Thanks.
