Sportsman 450 vs 500?
i've been looking at purchasing a used sportsman as my first ATV, in the
$3-4k range. Lookin at 500's but haven't found a nice one yet. I came accross a 2007 450 today and it seemd to have decent power and in good shape. What are the main differences between the 500 and 450 besides 44 cc's? Do you sacrifice much power from the 500 to 450?

really, no difference at all.
you still get:
the same AWD package
IRS rear suspension
same suspension travel
same storage boxes
still liquid cooled
ect.
really, the power loss isnt something to complain about. i am about 230-240lbs, and i demoed a 07 sportsman 450 for a weekend (from the shop i worked at) and had a blast on it, it hauled my ass around just fine. i say if its in good shape and a fair price, i say go for it, i would

I had a 450 for 3 years and recently sold it to buy a new 550 XP. I can say the 450 was a blast and kept right up with a friends 500. I recommend a decent 450 any time. You get a full size polaris ride, features and technology for a small size price. Power was fine for me esp. after installing a K&N filter and nology plug wire....enjoy!

I have an 06 450 and my friend has an 09 500 both are identical in features and size. However the 500 does have a little more power, We raced side by side and he beat me from the start. I topped out around 50 mph or so and he said he was going almost 60. The ride is good and I was able to keep up with him on all the trails. If the price is right go for it.
