HELP newbie with Trail boss ????
I have located a used Polaris TrailBoss 250. Well a good friend has for me. Lol
I do not know the year, only that it is red and white, a 2 stroke and it excellent shape. Oh yea the asking price is fifteen hundred.
When did they stop making this engine in this model? Any inherent problems with it?
What should I look for or ask the guy? It's about four hours north of me. We are planning a trip for next weekend to go look at or buy it.
This is intended as a starter machine for my wife and family. Later my wife will graduate to a small midsized 4x4 like last years sportsman 400.
Thank you,
CW

Knowing the year would really help.
If you can find out the year, use the link below for the Kelly Blue Book price.
You can choose between Retail & Trade-In values.
At least a starting point for some type of value.

Yea I know. But I'm talking thru my friend and twohundred miles of distance. I was hoping maybe that engine or color would limit the year range a bit.
I did learn that another friend has a '02 Trail Blaser 250 2 stroke. I can ride and look at all I want! I'm checking it out this weekend. I have only seen it in pictures.

Hey CW, I have a Trail Boss, very similar to the quad you're looking at. I'd ask about the wear items (belt, tires, brakes, etc) and see how it starts and runs cold and hot. My Trail boss had a horrible time starting when it was all warmed up due to a worn top end. But it would start ok when cold. Lastly I would check how it shifts into gear forward and reverse. Other than that they are pretty basic quads and easy to maintain. My kids ride the Trail Boss and love it, yet it still has enough power for the adults.

Thanks Nate! That's what I was hoping to hear!
I mentioned a friend having a Trailblazer for me to try, basically said the same. He bought his used a couple years ago for his kid to grow into. His wife prefers it to his 500 Sportsman for its ease to steer and control. I was offered the chance to ride and check it out. I will do that this weekend!!
Thanks Blueline!!
My buddie just keeps telling me its a great machine that runs and drives perfectly. Its only problem is the battery is dead and needs replacement. he starts it with the pull start and it starts instantly. Its an older gentleman who owns it and only used it for riding around his home and carrying a deer or three out of the woods in the fall. He is getting too old to do that any longer.
I will post up what I see as well as any other ??
Thanks a bunch guys,
CW

Trail Boss 250
I have a 1990 Trailboss 250- just keeps on going- we drive it in really bad spots and it has never let us down.
Always use the best oil- and you will have years of fun.

LOL, no not yet... I want to go up this weekend, but its not going to happen till next W/E.
BUT, I just ran across another machine... This one a 2001 Trail BLAZER 250, same price...
But I really want more of a utility machine than a sport machine. Now from what I read here, I know these are basically the same machine. With different plastic and hardware. Only thing is I really need is at least a rear rack. Is a rack still avalible for this machine with out breaking the bank?
This machine is VERY local, like 5 miles away verses just over 200 for the Trail BOSS. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... LOL
