Smile Polaris Sportsman 400 4x4 fuel line problem

Can you please help me? I have a Polaris Sportsman 400 4x4 with a detached fuel line. The 4 lines from the fuel tank appear to be connected just fine. I have a line that is under the carb that runs into a round, white object (maybe an inline fuel filter?) and the line that comes out of that object is just hanging there. It is not connected to anything. If I try letting it hang down, fuel just pours out of it. I do not believe it is the carb overflow line. I went to the Babbitts online website, but was unable to find a diagram showing this fuel line. Can you help? I have a snowstorm approaching, the blade is attached, but I can't plow the snow. Thanx for your help.

it sounds like you are describing the float bowl overflow tube. is the "white object" thin like a wafer kind of? sounds like it may be a one way check valve. (allows the overflowing float bowl to drain, but doesnt allow water to come in if it becomes submerged)

cookies... I'm with you on this one. My bet is that it is the one way valve on the fuel bowl overflow. sounds like he needs a good carb cleaning.

But, I don't get the "4 lines" from his fuel tank that are hooked up properly. I am not aware of any fuel setup that contains 4 fuel lines from the fuel tank to the carb. The only thing I could think of is one fuel line and one vacuum line if his system has an auto shutoff petcock. But I am not aware of polaris using such a setup.

Thanx so much for your help. Yes, I meant the 4 lines on the carb, not the fuel tank. The white thing is a wafer shape & has "VAC" on it. The fuel stopped flowing even after I turned the fuel back on. We are reassembling it now. Thanx again

yeah that's the one way valve on the bowl drain line....

before you get over confident with the mysterious fix, you will want to make sure that the carb is now over flowing. Sometimes you can get away with running some seafoam or other type of carb cleaning additive to help remove the varnish from the carb. The best option is always to remove and disassemble the carb to perform a complete cleaning. But maybe you got lucky..

my guess is as you run the engine it will begin to clog your idle/pilot jet making your engine not want to start and idle properly...

but hopefully not

fuel line

I think the best way to fix the problem is to get a mechanic or bring it to an auto dealer. You may also get a new fuel line insulation kit.
