atv dies when jumper cables disconnect

i just got a 03 sportsman 700 twin,and it has been sitting for a while,the battery is dead.it runs with jumper cable but dies as soon as they took off,will a 700 run with out a battery? thanks

you shouldnt run any quad without a battery because you could happen to ruin you electrical system since it is suppose to have the certain electrical current and without the battery the current is ruined. but im not sure if you CAN do it without harm.
