Polaris Winch Skipping

Winch skips and doesnt lift plow. Almost like a bike chain being too loose. I took the winch off. Any suggestions on whats causing it? I checked the engage and disengage lever. It doesnt seem to click all the way. On disengaged i can pull it out freely but in engage mode I can still pull it out but with difficulty.

Thanks

this happened to me. too much dirt got inside the winch and pushed something or other apart. long story short, one of the planetary gears ended up stripping out a ring in the plastic case. luckily the case was only $27 from warn.

I'm dealing with the same thing with my polaris 3500lb winch.Spools out and in but i can stop the in spool with my hand and i can pull the rope out when its engaged not in free spool. It doesn't come out easy but i can get it to come out. I tore it completely down and all the gears are fine. Put it back together and still the same problem. HELP!!!
