Suggestions for pulling front CV joint cup from differential

2006 Sportsman 500 EFI X2
So this is all that left of the front right axle assembly.
I originally cobbled up a slide puller to the outer axle end, "pulled/slammed away at it and the inner CV joint fell apart rather than come out of the differential.
So, Id read on here a suggestion to grab onto the cup with a vice grip and attach a slide hammer to that but cant figure out yet how to securely attach one to the other
Any other suggestions on how to extract this piece?
It looks like the splined shaft is stubbornly retained by a simple wire C clip..Correct???
Thanks

That clip is what is keeping it on. Well that and grime/rust and whatnot. I was able to pry all of mine out even though they had slight rust and were bone dry.

Drill a hole through both sides and put a bolt through it for the slide hammer to grab on......

I attached the vise grips to one side of the cup & then put a large screwdriver behind the cup on the opposite side. Pried & pulled at the same time.
I did soak mine down with PB Blaster which I think helped. You can always rebuild that axle and keep for a spare, so I wouldn't drill holes in the cup.
