Throttle issues

For awhile now i've been trying to figure out why my ATV has been stalling. If you give it a bunch of gas then let go of the throttle completely a lot of times it will stall out. It will also stall after about 20 seconds of idle. I first thought it was the carb but now realize i believe its the throttle. If i pull the throttle back in the opposite direction (back towards the driver) the ATV will cut out and stall. If you leave it at idle I think the vibration of the ATV eventually gets the throttle back far enough to cut out. Is there a fix for this, tighten something down or replace the throttle? Anyone seen this before?

Edit: 2004 Polaris Sportsman 600 Twin.

how much freeplay is on your throttle lever? Like how far will it move before the RPMs pick up. Could be your throttle safetly switch kicking in and shutting the machine down thinking it has a stuck throttle cable.

What can I replace or tighten on the throttle that will get rid of this 'play' in the throttle. Why if i pull it back towards me does the entire machine cut out?

Hello all, I have fixed this issue. Apparently this is extremely common I dont know how nobody knew of this. If you are having stalling issues with your ATV and when you give it gas then let go for the gas it cuts out. This should be the first thing you check. Your throttle cable. Your throttle has an electronic shut off on it in case the throttle were to get stuck down it would cut off the ATV. If your throttle is loose it can produce the same exact result essentially cutting out your ATV give it a 'stalling' issue. All you have to do is tighten the throttle cable that is coming from the thumb throttle, its a threaded line. Immediately fixed my stalling issue.

Hey folks, I have the opposite issue - idle stuck too high. Cables are free and operational, butterfly valve moves good in throttle body and idle high whether the throttle position speed sensor is disconnected or connected. Any thoughts on this one?

On the bottom of the Carb, there is a knob. Turn your ATV on and have it idle and adjust the knob until your idle is normal.

my only concern with this is that the throttle went crazy while driving. Could this have come out of adjustment by getting hit by something or could it happen after a rollover?

Thanks for the reply, I will be looking at this first thing in the morning.

Cheers,
