piston knock?

Hello, i just bought an 03 magnum 330 for my wife, and i rode it when i bought it but did not notice until i got home that it has a pretty evident knock. For the life of me i do not know how i did not hear it at the guys house, but it is what it is and i called the guy when i got home and he swears all polaris 4 strokes sound like that, but this is my first 4 stroker so i am not sure (but highly doubt it).Anyhow any tips would be great or a place to find a parts bike or used parts because i also need a new recoil and footboard and a few other things. Thanks Dan

Yeah, I heard the same thing when I was trying to adjust my rpm's (before I broke my quad) and it startled me a bit. Then I remembered reading something about it, so I started my wife's up and it sounded similar. Unless you're right down by the motor, you don't really hear it at all.

Yeah you have to be pretty close to hear it. The thing that really scares me is that i had to replace the oil hoses because of dry rot and they leaked, i am afraid he ran it low on oil.

damn oil lines! My 330 trailboss has them and about a year ago i was riding and next thing i knew the quad sounded terrible and wanted to shut down. id got off looked and all i saw was the oil line off. opened up the dipstick and tons of smoke came out. that cost me about 1000 to repair. new crank, piston, rings, connecting rod, wrist pin and everything. but i actually brought it home before i repaired it and put the oil line and new oil in it and it did drive almost the same but the engine sounded terrible like it had nails in it and then it didnt want to go as fast as it went, it would bog out after about half throttle. i wouldnt worry too much about it along as it sounds okay and drives good. if your really worried do a compression test and that will help you out.

If the knock is so soft then it's probably normal. If the knock is slight at idle and get louder as you rev it up then it's rod knock.

I just bought a broke Magnum 325 and found out the rod bearing has spun and was toast. Just rebuilt the whole thing and I have very faint knock so I think the slight knock is normal.

Mine had a broke oil line, didn't realize it until we started it.
