Sportman 500 ... Hard shift???
Guys,
I have an 2007 EFI Sportman 500. Doesn't have many hours and has not been used harshly at all.
Has been a very wet summer and fall. Kinda like living in a rain forest. Bike has spent much time in the rain as a result.
Has been getting progressively more difficult to move the shift lever. Seems to move fine when it is in gear.
Is there a place to lube the shift mechanism from the outside? Is this a known problem? Is it an indicator of a severe problem?
Thanks!
Mike

If you look at the shifter, there is a shift link rod that connects to the shifter (under side). The shift rod has a tie rod end looking fitting on the trans end of it.You can put WD40 or grease on it.It looks like you live about 10-15 minutes from me.

Just hit the linkage with some Break-Free (which is a teflon bearing light lubricating oil)! Boy does THAT make a difference!!!
Thank you :-)

I just use the bike as a tool around my small farm and hunting up the hill.
Not very exciting but very, very useful!
Thanks again!
