Bendix replacement, 700 Sportsman

The Bendix on my 2003 700 sportsman has given up. I pulled the starter and the right side stator/rotor cover and discovered small roller bearings and springs all over the place. The bendix has completely come apart. The spline on the starter is good, the teeth on the starter ring gear attached to the rotor are good. The old bendix came out as there was enough room to sort of fish it out without removing the rotor assembly. However, I have to pull the rotor to get the new bendix in.....or at least move it away from the engine about a quarter of an inch or so and I am unsure as to how to pull the rotor. There are three threaded screw holes near the center of the rotor hub. I have the rotor nut off. Can I use long screws to thread into these holes and jack the hub outward enough to get clearance or is there another way to pull the rotor. Any advice would be most helpful. Thank you much, Jim
