2001 Sportsman 500 HO won't shift to high

So as the title says, my quad will shift to reverse and low...but grinds and won't shift into high.

The sun of pup will randomly shift to high after being in reverse...but not steadliy

If I turn the ATV OFF and shift it to high, turn it on, it runs fine with no issues...dosen't pop out or anything

WTF? Is the issue

Thanks Guys and Gals

I think the gear shift linkage needs to be adjusted. Soak the threads with PB BLaster or other penatrating oil before adjusting. Note the end at the shifter is left hand threads. Loosen the jam nuts on both ends of the rods then adjust. You might have to adjust both rods to put them in sequence together.
