99 sportsman 335 not charging battery

I have an electrical problem with my 1999 sportsman 335. when i put a voltage meter to the battery terminals when the atv is on..i get no voltage...can this be the stator or the voltage regulator...is there a way to test it...thanks..jose

Most likely the Voltage Regulator. You can check the stator for proper ohms but not the VR. You'll need a manual for the correct ohms, It will tell you what wires to check across.
When you say you get no voltage, are you not reading the battery voltage?

yeah i do read the voltage from the battery, its a new battery, i fully charge it and get around 12.7volts...as the atv runs, then it drops little by little...till it wont start no more...

Ok that sounds like the Voltage Reg. I would check all my connection and wires just to be sure. VR is a common problem

put in a new voltage regulator and still nothing....i get 37 volts from the 3 prong wire that comes from the stator...but nothing else..thanks

On the VR, how many wires did it have?

OK, check these wires for Ohm's with meter at wires coming from stator.
y to y/brown should be close to .17 ohm
y/red to y/brown should be close to .17 ohm

ok, on the voltage regulator i have a 3 prong plug and a 2 prong plug and 3 seperate wires...a white, black and brown...thanks for helping me...

ok, crossed the ohms test...on the 3 prong i got .39 and on the 2 prong i got .09..any ideas..thanks

Is this what you replaced? Your description doesn't match this regulator. There are other boxes that look similar to this one but are not the regulator.
One of them is the rev box.
