02 Sportsman 500 H.O pull start decomp valve?
I have a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O Remington Special Edition. Does this model have a decompression valve to help with the jerky pull start if needed? Can't seem to find one--where would it be? Thanks!

Doesn't seem to have one. It will pull start ok you just get a lot of jerky tension on the string. If I get past the first part of the string I have about a good 6 inches of pull that tend to get it started. Just don't want to break the string! Could this model not have one?

I had a 2001 Sportsman 400 and it didn't have a compression relief. Just give the rope a tug till it gets on exhaust stroke then pull it to start it. It should start at about 1/4 pull. What is wrong with the electric start? If it's the starter dbelectrical has a aftermarket starter and bendix(starter drive).

yea they do have a decompressor it is built into the camshaft. No there is not a button to hit for the decompressor, it is for the electric starter not you! haha. When using the recoil, pull it slowly untill it hits the hard spot, that is called tdcc, pull just past this then let your recoil rope back in so you can get a good pull on it and pull. If you try to just pull it and pull then yea you will break your rope and its an hour fix at the dealership and a job that most people dont know how to do by themselves cuz them recoil springs are a pain is the butt!
