how to respool winch atv

I got a used 850xp that had a very rusted winch cable on it. After pulling it off down to the drum, I found this.

Is it worth trying to sand down or should I just replace the spool?

Bump. Looking to replace the whole thing now. Are there any drop in solutions for this polaris winch? Will a warn winch fit? How hard is the install?

It's whatever came with it (2009). I'll have to go check tomorrow.
