05 sportsman 400 - changing starter

I just purchased an 05 sportsman 400. The bike pull-starts with no issues, but the starter seems to be bad. Is there a thread that someone can point me to as to how to go about changing the starter?

Also, if there is anything else that you guys can tell me in regards to what I should check/tune up, please let me know. I am also going to need a new set of tires because these are going bald. If anyone can point me to a nice cheap set of tires/wheels that would be great!
