how to change a choke cable to a lever

New to the board. Great resource.

I am a newbie to ATVs, but purchased a decent 96 Xpress 300 for a couple hundred bucks. Figured a good way to learn without a lot of investment.

The choke lever is broken and I purchased the new kit below.

However, when I removed the old choke, it has a black box with the choke cable coming out of it. Did I buy the wrong thing? I don't see how I would remove the cable from the box or open it.

On a potentially related note, my buddy cleaned my carb for me. It now starts after about 10 seconds, but won't idle. I am thinking the choke will help with this, but any recommendations would be appreciated!

Figured it out myself. By the back of the box there is a VERY small seam. It almost looks like there isn't one there. Delicately prying and eventually using a 3mm flat head and a hammer I was able to separate the box. Took about 10 minutes. Then about another 10 minutes of putting in the new lever and presto it is good as new!
